IN SUPPORT OF WOMEN - a response to a broad, critical description of women
Wait a second here.
The broad generalisation of the women's movement is incorrect. The segment
of that movement that
labels themselves as "radical feminists" are generally anti-father,
but certainly not the bulk of the
rest of them. Many of our strong, long term supporters from Cools and Erin
Pizzey (founder of the shelter
movement) to FACT's own directors are women who are strongly supportive of
EQUAL SHARED
parenting -- TWO parents, including fathers, not simply one or more mothers.
I do like to pull it out, but remember from the founding principles of the
National Organisation of Women
(in the US) before the radical feminists took it over:
WE REJECT the current assumptions that a man must carry the sole burden of
supporting himself,
his wife, and family, and that a woman is automatically entitled to lifelong
support by a man upon her
marriage, or that marriage, home and family are primarily woman's world and
responsibility -- hers, to
dominate -- his to support. We believe that a true partnership between the
sexes demands a different
concept of marriage, an equitable sharing of the responsibilities of home and
children and of the
economic burdens of their support. We believe that proper recognition should
be given to the
economic and social value of homemaking and child-care. To these ends, we will
seek to open a
reexamination of laws and mores governing marriage and divorce, for we believe
that the current state
of `half-equity" between the sexes discriminates against both men and
women, and is the cause of
much unnecessary hostility between the sexes.
My daughter will have the same opportunities as my son and, God willing, neither
will have to deal with this
divorce stuff any more in their lives.
